Youth festival – Event Rules & Judgement Criteria

General Rules
  1. Every participant will be getting a unique registration number, which will be used to announce their identity to the judges. Name of the participant/ teacher(gurus)/ choreographer should not be announced and may lead to disqualification.
  2. For each event, participants should adhere to the specified time limit. Exceeding the time limit will lead to disqualification.
  3. Participants will receive visual and/or audible warning signals before the time limit and must stop their performance when the time limit bell rings for elocution and storytelling.
  4. Only the participant will be allowed on stage – any assistance needed by the participants for set up/ clean up will be provided by the organizing team.
  5. All events will be solo events to be performed by one individual, with the exception of Group Dance.
  6. Any materials brought to the stage must be cleared and removed from the stage on completion of their performance and the event premises before 6 PM.
  7. When taking photographs or videos of the events, please ensure that you do not block the judges.
  8. Participants and their families will be responsible for any properties/costumes/instruments etc. used for the performance. EMA is not responsible for any loss of property.

 

 

 

Bharatanatyam
Event Rules
  1. Participants are not allowed to make any announcements.
  2. The audio track must be shared by May 4th
Judgement Criteria
  1. Aangika Abhinaya (30 Points)
  2. Vaachika Abhinaya (10 Points)
  3. Aahaarya Abhinaya (10 Points)
  4. Saatvika Abhinaya (20 Points)
  5. Taal And Laya (20 Points)
  6. Space Usage And Presentation (10 Points)
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Cinematic/Fusion/Western Dance
Event Rules
  1. Participants are not allowed to make any announcements.
  2. The audio track must be shared by May 4th
  3. EMA is not responsible for any loss of stage properties.
Judgement Criteria
  1. Choreography – (40 Points).
  2. Steps, Transitions, Originality, Movement Techniques,
    Fluidity, Music Quality, Interpretation Of Music, Finesse – (30 Points)
  3. Expression, Grace, Energy And Completeness Of The Steps, Costume And Prop Usage (20 Points).
  4. Overall Presentation (10 Points)
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Group Dance (Min 3 Participants)
Event Rules
  1. A minimum of 3 are needed for this competition.
  2. The audio track must be shared by May 4th.
  3. If a group consists of participants from different age groups, the team will compete in the age group of the oldest participant.
  4. Each participant should sign up separately for the event. 
Judgement Criteria
  1. Choreography – (40 Points).
  2. Steps, Transitions, Originality, Movement Techniques,
    Fluidity, Music Quality, Interpretation Of Music, Finesse – (30 Points)
  3. Expression, Grace, Energy And Completeness Of The Steps, Costume And Prop Usage (20 Points).

Carnatic Music
Event Rules
  1. Participants are allowed to use a Shruti Box
Judgement Criteria
  1. Raga (Melody): (25 Points)
  2. Tala (Rhythm): (25 Points)
  3. Bhava (Expression): (25 Points)
  4. Composition: (15 Points)
  5. Overall Impression: (10 Points)
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Light Music (Malayalam)
Event Rules
  1. Only non-film songs are allowed; performing a film song will lead to disqualification.
  2. Accompanying Instruments/ karaoke are not allowed.
  3. The song language must be Malayalam.
Judgement Criteria
  1. Swaram (20 Points)
  2. Sruthilayam (20 Points)
  3. Rhythm (20 Points)
  4. Bhavam (20 Points)
  5. Literary Clarity. (20 Points)
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Film Song (Malayalam)
Event Rules
  1. Karaoke is allowed and should be shared by April 30th.
  2. The song language must be Malayalam.
Judgement Criteria

Western Music
Event Rules
  1. Karaoke is allowed and the track must be shared by April 30th.
  2. Accompanying Instruments are not allowed.
  3. The performance should be in English language.

  2. Selection Of Song (20 Points)
  3. Voice Quality (20 Points)
  4. Accent (20 Points)
  5. Variation & Overall Impact (20 Points)
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Instruments (String Or Wind)
Event Rules
  1. Other accompanying Instruments/ records/ tracks karaoke are not allowed.
  2. Participants can perform on only one instrument – either string or wind.
Judgement Criteria
  1. Rhythm And Timing – 15 Points
  2. Creativity – 15 Points
  3. Authenticity And Perfection – 30 Points
  4. Expression – 20 Points
  5. Execution – 20 Points
Time Limit
  • 5 minutes
Recitation Malayalam
Event Rules
  1. Participants must recite Malayalam poetry by a poet of their choice.
  2. The participant can announce the name of the poem and the poet at the beginning of their performance.
  3. The timer starts when the participant begins recitation.
  4. Participants must recite the poem without written aids.
  5. No records, tracks or karaoke are allowed.

  3. Memorization (20 Points)

Recitation English

  1. Participants must recite English poetry by a poet of their choice.

  2. Participants can use any supplementary items to perform their act in the best possible manner, which must be arranged by participants on their own.

  2. Script (20 Points)
  3. Dialogue Delivery (20 Points)
  4. Presentation (20 Points)
  5. Time Management (20 Points)

  • 5 minutes
Fancy Dress
Event Rules
  1. Participants may select a theme, topic or subject of their own.
  2. Participants can use any supplementary items to perform their act in the best possible manner, which must be arranged by participants on their own.
  3. Background track is allowed and should be shared by May 4th.
Judgement Criteria
  1. Costume (20 Points)
  2. Theme Adherence (20 Points)
  3. Expression And Gestures. (20 Points)
  4. Novelty ( New Ideas) (20 Points)
  5. Over All Impression (20 Points)
